| The crew, in Russian military fatigues, gets an update from Valery on the latest winter survival techniques. We had two sets of survival training - one for ocean landings and one for arctic winter landings. Valery heads up the department responsible for survival training. In days gone by they have taken cosmonaut crews to the far North of Russia, well inside the Arctic Circle, and expected them to survive three days on their own with nothing but the equipment found inside a Soyuz. We didn't have time, unfortunately, so we only had a day in the forests around Star City. We could head back to the canteen for a hot lunch in the middle of it all. |
