This glovebox was designed and built by the University of Stellenbosch, and passed all of the Russian certification tests for the flight. We'll assemble it during the flight from component panels. It's clear so that we can see exactly what we are doing. Inside are spaces for the incubator (Australian) that keeps the embryo's and stem cells at a constant temperature. There are three gloves to allow a second cosmonaut to assist with some of the more tricky operations in weightlessness. The glovebox has compartments for clean and used syringes, needles and other items. The Russians want to keep this glovebox on the ISS and use it for future research. |
