These big modules are part of the old infrastructure for training on Mir, they are very high-fidelity mockups of portions of that station. This hall is the ISS mockup training facility... the two modules that are the primary Russian modules in the ISS can just be seen in the background... It's interesting to see that Mir had almost nothing in the way of external shielding. The ISS has a lot more in the way of external layers of fabric (outside the pressure hull). Those layers were added at NASA's request, to protect against micro-meteorite strikes. |
